We need a head count to get the hotel block reservations done etc. The meeting dates are October 22-26 (I expect some aggregation into technology thrust and working groups to happen, so that some of you may still have a meaningful meeting even if you can't make the complete duration). Since the meeting is in nearby Santa Barbara, and since we are moving forward towards important design and development decisions, several of which need guidance also from the research side, I do encourage everyone to attend! Please let us know asap whether you will be able to attend this meeting. For some of you whom I didn't get a chance to meet recently (including the GSRAs), this is also a good occassion to do some joint work. Since I'm currently in Venezuela and virtually off email, please reply also to Raja (sekar at sdsc.edu) and/or Matt (jones at nceas.ucsb.edu) directly. SEEK meeting reminder 2. TechReport on Analytical Pipelines Message-ID: <200308231851.h7NIp0ZY000708@multivac.sdsc.edu> Hi all: 1. ACTION REQUIRED for the members of SEEK-UCSD: if you haven't done already, please reply ASAP to me (please cc to Matt Jones ) whether you can attend the upcoming SEEK AHM in Santa Barbara 2. For those who are interested in the SEEK Analytical Pipelines (and/or data stream processing), attached please find a technical report which explains some of problems with our first ad-hoc workflow implementation in the SciDAC project, and a proposal how to avoid those using a declarative functional approach based on process networks. It should also give the colleagues interested workflows a first impression that our scientific "workflows" are mostly *dataflows* and best modeled using *process networks*. So for things to be SEEK/SciDAC relevant it would be helpful to take a close look at [LP95] which forms the basis for our implementation platform Ptolemy-II. Since process networks can be compiled into quite efficient (and parallel) code, fans of the XSM may find [LP95] interesting as well (those folks, also see Section 4.2 of the tech report). cheers (and sorry for the bundled email: I'm still operating out of the internet cafe) Bertram -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed...
